To spend a day outside the city "las Siete Cascadas" is a nice place to enjoy the nature, hike between the mountains, take a bath and sunbath.
Taking the bus from Sucre in the morning you reach a small village very close to the city. Here you start the hike of around 3 km, walking down the road between the mountains until you reach a small bridge crossing a river. If the river isn´t very full with water you can walk along the river bank until you reach the first waterfall. This walk is a bit exhausting as you need to climb the rocks sometimes to avoid the water but the views from the river are very beautiful.
The other option is to cross the bridge and follow the road to a small path at your left. Following it you will see the waterfall already.
The waterfalls itself arent´t very spectacular, furthermore you can only reach the first three as you wold need climbing equipment to reach the others. But there are natural swimming pools where you can take a refreshing bath in the water and stay a while to sunbath as well.
To get back you need to walk up the whole way you came until the village where you can take the bus that takes you down to the centre of Sucre.
How to get there:
The best time to visit the waterfalls is during november to april as during the other months the river and the pools will dry out.
From the centre you can take the bus "Q" that takes you to Villa Armonía. From here it´s a 6 km walk following the road. Every half an hour the bus even goes to the small village Alegría from where it´s just about 4 km to the waterfalls.
