Castillo de la Glorieta

5 kilometres out of the city of Sucre there is the Castillo de la Glorieta. Unique in its style it is one of the most extraordinary buildings of the republic era combining the gothic, mannerist, baroque, rococo, neoclassic and mudéjar style.
The story of the castle is about the couple Don Francisco de Argandoña and Dña. Clotilde Urioste de Argandoña that couldn´t have children. This is why they got the idea to adopt orphanats, build the castle and give them a home where to grow up.
For this beneficial work the pope León XIII gave him the title of Principe de la Glorieta in 1898 after which the castle was named as well.
On the 27th of august in 1909 the prince died. His body and the one of his wife rest in a mausoleum on the main cemetery in Sucre.
