Description

The Hotel Tayka de Sal (Salt Hotel), 117km from Uyuni at an altitud of 3,700 meter above sea level, was built, at the foot of the Thunupa volcano on the northern border of the Salar de Uyuni with blocks of salt extracted from the Salar de Uyuni.
Its strategic location near the Salar, the Thunupa Volcano and the town of Tahua (200m), offers a wide range of cultural activities and communion with nature in this región.
Very important and beautiful natural and cultural attractions are located in the surroundings of the hotel: The majestic Salar de Uyuni, the Thunupa volcano, the town of Tahua, the town of Chiquini, the museum of Chantani and the Chillguilla Takana, among others.

Sights of the region

With 10,582 square kilometeres and 3,656 metres above sea level, the Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world. This vast, flat land of pure white salt combines with multi-coloured lagoons, volcanic mountains, tree-like rocks and towering islands of coral to create one of the most unique and bizarre landscapes in the world.
Some of the sights within the region include: The Train Cemetry of Uyuni; Incahuasi Island in the Salar; Ojos de Salar; and the Eduardo Avaroa Nature Reserve, which contains a number of lagoons of bright red, yellow, green and white water, coloured by virture of their mineral content. Also found in the nature reserve are geyser, the Lincacabur volcano and the breeding grounds of 3 of the worlds 6 species of flamingo.
