Tarabuco Sunday Market

60 km out of the city there is the small village Tarabuco where every Sunday there is the market of the campesinos. Getting out of the bus you walk through the narrow streets passing for the stands where they sell nearly everything. As the market is for the indigenous campesinos, who come here to buy their things for the week, the atmosphere is very authentic. You see people in their traditional outfits, around the stands where they sell food, coca, wool for the weavings, agricultural tools, sandals and much more. Of course there are also always some tourists so there are many shops where you can buy weavings and other crafts. It´s a very good experience to see something typical of Bolivia.

How To Get There:

There are several travel agencies organizing the transport for around 30 to 50 Bs. (i.e. Trans Real Audiencia, Calle San Alberto, leaves at 8:30, and returns to Sucre at 13:30). The cheapest way to get to Tarabuco is by public transport from Av. de las Américas corner Jaime Mendoza. It usually takes about one and a half hours.
