Sights

The Pampas del Yacuma Municipal Protected Area (APM) was created in 2007 and covers an area of 616,453 ha. in the municipality of Santa Rosa del Yacuma in the west of the department of Beni. One of the objectives for the creation was to preserve the biodiversity of the area compatible with the sustainable development of the region. Ecotourism in the region is one of the most important economic sources for Santa Rosa, and it is also part of the tourist offer of the city and the tourist center Rurrenabaque, as a starting point for tours to the Pampas. The area protects the savannas of the Moxos plains, with its ecological uniqueness due to annual flooding.
The landscape consists of a complex mosaic of habitats: flooded savannas, wetlands, forest islands, gallery forests, palm trees, and aquatic plants. It is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, with endemic and critically endangered species sucwh as: The madidi titi and the blue-throated macaw. Other relevant species are: jaguar, maned wolf, river dolphin (Inia boliviensis), and the black caiman.
