Stone Door of the Lions, Potosi

Situated on opposite sides, and at opposite ends, of this stretch of Calle Millares (between Calle Chuquisaca and Calle Nogales) two doors to ancient Potosi institutions compete for the prize of most ornate. A glance upwards from No 56 is answered with a delicate mantel depicting two lions in relief.

The opposite door is the only one on this stretch of road. Now the entrance to the UATF Facultad Tecnica, it is surrounded by birds, pots and a beautifully stylised sun. It also bears a, remarkably well preserved, artist's signature dating it as nearly 230 years old.
