Adventure sports: Rafting in the Chapare (2 days, from Cochabamba)

"... feel the breathtaking force of the water and the impact of the waves that shake the boat ... you have to row with steadfastness and passion, while your heartbeat is accelerating, fatigue starts setting in and your teeth clench... you have almost no strength left to control the rapids of the roaring river, ... the guide shouts orders and raises morale in order to extract strength from where there is no strength, ... another obstacle has been overcome and you scream out loud, jumping for joy and emotion as the waves crash against your body ... "
Rafting is a trip downriver over fast-flowing mountain rivers with rapids, in special rubber boats. The rivers are classified from class I (small waves for the whole family) to class V (only recommended for people with experience in this sport). The classification of the route offered in the Chapare region on the Espíritu Santo river depends on the season and varies between Class II and IV rapids - ideal for all ages of adventurers. The starting point is 140 km from the city of Cochabamba, approx. 2.5-3 hours driving time and 25 km before reaching the city of Villa Tunari. The end of the river trip is at the base station for rafting about 15 km before Villa Tunari, where showers and toilets are available so that the visitor can get changed. This activity is accompanied by extremely professional rafting guides, with equipment in optimal condition, so that an unforgettable adventure can be experienced under the highest safety requirements.

We start the day trip early in Cochabamba, from where we take the main road to Santa Cruz in direction of Villa Tunari. The region of Chapare we drive through is one of the most beautiful areas of Bolivia with a subtropical and tropical climate. The route offers the traveler a number of beautiful and diverse landscapes. From the high altitude of the Andes with its wild straw and thola bush vegetation, the road goes over an Andean pass and the plunges into the subtropical Yungas towards the Amazon lowlands. With every meter downhill, the vegetation increases, through lush cloud forests, past flower-covered bushes, exotic trees, tree ferns, orchids down to the lowlands with its rainforests and centuries-old trees. Here at the foot of the Andes begins one of the region's most exciting adventure activities: rafting on the Espíritu Santo River, an activity for all ages!
Accompanied by experienced rafting guides on a special rubber raft, equipped with safety vests, helmets and paddles (the fun of driving is largely dependent on our paddling !!), you hurtle down the Espiritu Santo river over waves and rapids that will leave you wet from head to toe (wearing comfortable and thin clothes is essential!). We will spend about an hour and a half on a 12 km stretch of river. The difficulty level of this river ranges from level 2 in the dry season (May to October) to level 4 in the rainy season. At the end of the boat ride, we can jump into the water from a 6-meter platform and there is a safe area with no current for swimming in the river surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. The time for the rafting activity is about three hours from the start until returning to the base station near the town of Villa Tunari. In the afternoon return to Cochabamba.
